Adolescent gynecomastia with a typical history of male breast development at the age of 12 will usually disappear by age 15 or 16, but some will remain. Ideally it should be excised after the patient has reached 18 years of age. In cases where the male breast is extremely enhanced, the procedure may be performed prior to 18 years of age.
