Adelescent gynecomastia with a typical history of male breast development
at the age of 12 will usually disappear by age 15 or 16, but
some will remain. See the attached article and consult your Plastic
Surgeon who is experienced in gynecomastia. This condition is
usually hormonal and is a combination of fatty and breast tissue.
Ideally it should be excised after the patient has reached 18
years of age. In cases where the male breast is extremely enhanced,
the procedure may be performed prior to 18 years of age. (This
is dependent on the patient’s psychological and physical
development).
As with all cosmetic surgery, results are most gratifying when
expectations are realistic.
