Gynecomastia in Adolescents - Patient 8
This is an 18 year old Westchester County, NY patient who began developing Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts, during his adolescence. He refrained from involving himself in any activities that required him to remove his shirt, such as sports, due to the fear of being teased by his peers. His parents became concerned about his behavior, and through research learned that up to 60% of young boys develop Gynecomastia during puberty, although mild cases often dissolve by age 17, more severe or tubular cases, such as with this teenager, are often endured throughout life. They consulted with Dr. Mordcai Blau, board certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years experience. They felt comfortable with Dr. Blau after learning of his superior reputation as a top surgeon in Gynecomastia and is even a well-accomplished author on the subject. They were further impressed to learn he is an award-winning painter and sculptor. Male breast reduction surgery was performed, excising the mammary tissue beneath the breasts responsible for the enlargement, followed by liposuction. The young man is very happy with the results and his parents are happy to report he has begun participating in the sports he had recently avoided.
